After completing his speciality in the city of Barcelona, he moved to the United States to re-qualify and obtain this certification for maxillofacial specialists recognised in the USA and approved by the American Board of Dentists of the American Dental Association.
To obtain it, a strict verification in the training of an accredited residency programme is required, as well as the successful completion of qualification and oral certification exams of quite complex difficulty, which is why the professionals accredited by this institution are very few. In addition, once certified by ABOMS, the candidate must participate in a maintenance process for this certification, which Dr. Birbe continues to pass periodically thanks to his experience and extensive training.

The test consists of four 50-minute exams covering four surgical sections.
