What is Mandibuloplasty?
Mandibuloplasty consists of changing the shape of the jaw in order to harmonize it. The angle of the jaw, the lower border or the chin are the most frequently reshaped areas. In cases with very wide jaws, we can also reduce their width. The surgery is inside the mouth, without external scars. Reshaping is done by filing excessively large areas, or changing their shape with micro drills.
For a mandibuloplasty, a photographic study and a facial scan of the patient are essential where we can see perfectly the areas to be treated as well as the noble structures, such as the dental nerve, which must be respected. This study also allows us to make a simulation to be able to visualize the desired changes and therefore define the treatment plan.
The mandibuloplasty is done in isolation, or in conjunction with other interventions such as cheekbones or chin, rhinoplasty or frontal reshaping, in cases where the objective is a major facial transformation.
The postoperative period involves swelling of the face for a few days. Wearing a cryotherapy mask minimizes edema and substantially speeds recovery.
