Lip Lift
What is a lip lift?
Despite the importance that the lips have in the aesthetics of the face as a whole, they are often not given all the importance they deserve when considering a facial rejuvenation. There is a tendency to treat the lips only with fillers or neuromodulators, when they can benefit from certain surgical techniques.
Today, we have two lip rejuvenation techniques, which are the Lip Lift (indirect lip lift) and the advance of vermilion or direct lip lift.
Types of Lip Surgery
Lip lift
The lip lift aims to shorten the length of the lip too long. In other words, reduce the distance between the subnasal point and vermilion. At the same time, the vermilion rotates outwards, increasing its thickness. Depending on the design of the lip lift we make, we reduce not only the central area of the lip but also the lateral area. The incision is hidden in the alar groove of the nose and inside the nostrils. The stitches are removed after 7 days. The scar is practically imperceptible in this area and the result is immediate.
Vermilion advance or direct lip lift
In this design, 2-3 mm of skin adjacent to the vermilion is removed, advancing it outward. The scar is hidden in the linea alba of the lip. It is indicated when the length of the lip is normal but the amount of exposed vermilion is low and the lip is too thin. The sutures used are very fine and magnifying glasses are needed to see them. The stitches are removed after 7 days. The scar is practically imperceptible in this area and the result is immediate
Surgical Steps
We perform a static and dynamic facial evaluation, seeing the mobility of the upper lip when smiling, measuring its length (ideally 13 mm from subnasal to vermilion) as well as evaluating the thickness of the vermilion.
Both direct lip lift and vermilion advancement (indirect lp lift) are surgeries that can be performed under local anesthesia if they are performed as the only surgery. They are often part of a global facial rejuvenation, and are performed in conjunction with a facelift and blepharoplasties. In this case, we usually recommend intravenous sedation as an anesthetic technique.
